Prices and payment
How do you stop chasing payment for tuned files?
Late payers cost a file service more than discounts ever do. How to get paid before the work, without offending good customers or losing the regulars.
In short
Take payment before the tuner opens the file. Once the order page asks for card or credits up front, the chasing stops, and customers who pay promptly lose nothing. Keep any exceptions rare, named and earned.
Ask any file service what it hates most, and it probably isn't a hard ECU. It is the customer who needed the file urgently on Friday and has gone quiet by Monday. A tuned file is especially exposed: once it has gone, you have nothing left to hold on to.
Why does a file service end up chasing money?
Because of how the work begins. A message arrives, the car is on the ramp, you want to help, and the file goes out with a promise to settle up. Multiply that by forty customers and somebody is spending every Monday going through a chat history to work out who owes what.
What does paying first really change?
Everything downstream. There is nothing to chase, and no awkward message to a customer you like. Your tuner never works on a job that might not get paid for, and the numbers at the end of the month match what you actually received. Good customers lose nothing, because they were going to pay anyway.
The customers who object loudest to paying first are usually the ones you were chasing.
Will paying first lose you customers?
Some may grumble, and a few may leave. Look at who they are before you worry. In practice a workshop cares far more about speed than about when the card is charged. Make paying first quicker than the old way, with one click from credits and no waiting for an invoice, and most stop noticing it.
How do you switch without upsetting anyone?
- Tell everyone first, in plain words, with a date. Say it is how you can keep answering quickly.
- Clear old balances before the date, so nobody starts in debt.
- Offer credits with a bonus on bigger packs, so the regulars feel looked after.
- Keep exceptions rare and named. A long-standing account may keep paying on invoice. Decide who, and write it down.
How does a portal enforce it?
So that you don't have to. On a TunerEngine portal, switch payment first on and a request goes through only once it is paid, by card for the job or from the customer's credits. The guide to getting paid first shows each step. The file doesn't reach your tuner until the money is in, and the money lands in your own account.
No one on your team has to say no, because the page already has.
What about customers who pay and then dispute it?
Keep your paperwork together. A job with the order, the file, the conversation, the delivery and the invoice in one place answers most disputes quickly. Have clear terms about corrections as well: most complaints go away when the customer knows you will fix the file and how to ask.
Questions
Can I let some customers pay later?
That is your decision. Keep it to a few long-standing accounts you have chosen on purpose.
Does the money go through TunerEngine?
No. Payments land straight in your own payment account.
What if a card fails on a Sunday?
The customer sees it straight away and can try again or pay from credits. The request waits until it is paid.
